Positive Medicine is a healthcare framework developed in Aotearoa, New Zealand, founded on a simple but powerful belief: health and healing are not separate from life itself.

We see health as an expression of balance and harmony across the whole person - physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual. Rather than focusing solely on disease, Positive Medicine helps people understand themselves, navigate life with confidence, and live more fully as themselves.

Drawing on systems thinking, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and timeless wisdom traditions, Positive Medicine brings together the strengths of modern medicine with a deeper understanding of what creates health and enables healing. We call this Life Homeostasis - the balance and harmony that emerge when people feel safe to be true to themselves.

Our work is inspired by Te Whare Tapa Whā, the Māori model of health, which recognises that wellbeing arises from the integration of body, mind, relationships and meaning.

Through this lens, Positive Medicine provides a practical and evidence-informed approach that helps people make sense of their health, develop new capabilities and create lasting change.

At its heart, Positive Medicine is about partnership. Healthcare professionals bring their expertise in medicine; individuals bring their expertise in their own lives. Together, they create the conditions in which healing can emerge.

Founded in 2021 by occupational physician Dr David Beaumont, Positive Medicine is both a model of whole person health and healing and a framework for the future practice of medicine. Through programmes, education and partnerships with healthcare professionals, organisations and communities, we are helping to build a healthcare system that empowers people, strengthens communities and supports human flourishing.

Positive Choices. Positive Outcomes.

What would become possible if healthcare focused not only on treating illness, but also on helping people understand life, navigate it with confidence, and live more fully as themselves?

What if medicine and healing were seen as complementary rather than separate?

What if doctors and patients worked together, each bringing their own expertise?

And what if healthier individuals created healthier families, healthier workplaces and healthier communities?

Positive Medicine: Helping people understand life, navigate it with confidence, and live more fully as themselves.

Creating the conditions for healing to emerge.

Positive Medicine is a framework for whole person health and healing that brings together the strengths of modern medicine, systems thinking and timeless wisdom.

Because health is part of life.

And healing happens.
